Sudden Spike in Electricity Bill ?

Did you get unusual electricity Bill . If yes, its a correct destination for you to go through this blog to understand what might be wrong.

Have faced this issue in start of the year 2018. The bill has come almost 3 times of what I used to get.
Was thinking did I really use this much of electricity with the appliances which I have in my home.

1. When I decided its not with appliances, first thing I have done is checking the meter reading in current electricity Bill vs the actual meter reading which is showing in the meter. Line men could have done the mistake in entering the meter details and in turn it can affect your overall bill. But it was not the case with me.

2. Next thing is to suspect the meter which might be running unusual. If you are 100% sure that your meter is malfunctioning , you can directly move on to step 4.

3. Based on my previous months bill, I have come to the conclusion that on an average I use 4-6 units/day. Keeping this in mind, have monitored the meter reading of the bill for one of the week. For this I was noting down the meter reading at one fixed time i.e., 8 AM in the morning. By doing in this way, I understood what is the units pattern which am using now. Which is usual than higher for this total week. It was going till 12-15 units/day.

4. Did go to the electricity office which takes care of my billing and enquired the procedure to get rectify my electricity meter. Actually electricity department has one lab where they will test the meter to verify whether its working properly or not. Below are the details which am sharing which is very useful instead of roaming around government office to know the exact procedure.

Note: Below steps are related to Telangana Electricity department. The procedure of other states may be different in some steps but overall it would be same.

5. Take the DD of Rs.360(it may vary over the time, so please check with the electricity dept) on the name of TSSPDCL. Intimate the same to electricity dept guys that DD is ready and you want to take your meter for testing in the nearest lab.

6. One of the person from electricity department will remove the meter and we need to get an T-Note, its like a request form which would be issued by local electricity department to nearest lab department, requesting them to verify the meter.

7. Along with meter and one line men need to go to near electricity department lab(this details would be provided by your local electricity dept) . They will test the meter infront of you and decides whether its malfunctioning or not.

8. Based on the outcomes if its faulty meter, they will deduct the current month bill and gives you a new meter.

9. Once you get the new meter, I would suggest you to watch your meter for next 1 week to decide that the new meter is working without any issues.

Hope this article is informational to people who might be facing similar issues.

Bringing SAMSUNG 40" LED TV from US to India

Bringing SAMSUNG 40" LED TV from US to India

I have returned from US last Dec and bought  Samsung LED TV(Samsung 40EH5300) with me. so, wanted to share my experience and information as I did a lot of google to get the TV back to India . Thought it would be very useful stuff to people who want to bring the TV.

There are multiple things which you need to consider before buying the TV.

1) Voltage Issue : US uses 110 volts where as in India we uses 220 volts. Try to get a TV which supports both voltages. You can get the local made voltage converter from Gujarati Galli(a place in Hyd) for 1200, which comes with 6 months warranty.

2) PAL to NTSC : US uses NTSC video steaming and in India it is PAL. Its better to search for a TV which uses both standards.I heard Vizio will work in this way.If you dont find one, there is no problem. In India, we can connect to the digital set top box of any company(Airtel,Videocon,Hathway ...)
I am using Hathway set top box but the problem with this settop box is, tv will not show any colors exept black and white , when I connected to set top box. I hope it is not the problem with other set top boxes.
I bought a PAL to NTSC converter from US : OREI PAL to NTSC to get the color in TV and  I read the reviews were very good for this . Unlucky, the color is still not coming as the box has some problem.
Again a I bought a new PAL to NTSC  in HYD CTC building for 3500 Rupees.

3) Baggage Issue : You can check in your TV under 42" as a normal baggage only in Ethihad and British Airways without any fees. But other Airlines such as Air India and others will charge 200$. Its better to call the specific airlines to check their restrictions.

4) Customs : You know how our customs works in India. When I arrived in Hyderabad International Airport with big TV box, all customs persons were behind me to get some money. Bargain started with 40$ and settled for 20$.

At last bought the TV to home and set it up with some difficulty ...As of now no problem with TV.
